    I got back into manga in 2020 also! I have around 700 volumes and I have a excel doc that I keep track of my books because of the exact reason you do. I'm going to for sure check out the app you talked about it sounds perfect! Do you have any series you recommend for someone who wants to expand out more from Shounen and Seinen? Especially those with English releases? Anyway I've been loving your content. Keep up the great work!

    Even when it isn't that deep, like the Johnny trilogy of songs by Crown the Empire, analysing the songs is still enjoyable.

    aaaa i love all the vintage magazines!! Its so cool to see old shoujo history like that and in general to see all the nice art + the old way of magazines before the more standard style of serialization came to be. (also i love the From Far Away art book, Viz please re release it) Your manga shelves also look cool! I like the clear holders for displaying volume covers but also saving space, def something ill keep mind if i start to run out of space on my current shelf. I agree on not wanting to buy full price, with how expensive manga volumes are now unless you have a gift card it feels really bad to get them full price so i look for deals when i can. (sadly no HPB near me but there is a Books a Million i should peak at) Also i didnt know Tokyopop had Maid-Sama so that was really cool to see! Love the collection and great video as always!

    I feel you on the need to find more space for books so I have like 4 boxes filled with manga and light novels because due to my current living arrangement, my sister and I have to share the same bookshelf (which stinks). I also have to put books on top of other books just to make a nice arrangement.

    Hi Colleen! I'm a big fan of love triangle trope in romance and I'm curious if there's a shojo manga that break the love triangle stereotypes? For example the FL who choose both MLs or the FL who choose neither of them and go single or the FL who choose someone outside the love triangle? I don't think I find it on manga or manhwa or manhua as for now

    We both have the same volume of "From Far Away". Hope someone licenses the 2in1 from Japan. Love to see Sacrificial Princess, hope we get the sequel. Cardcaptor Sakura is 12 volumes long and it looks like from the spines, you've got "Master of the Clow" which is actually volumes 7-12 because Tokyopop bizarrely decided to re-number the second arc and give it the subtitle MOTC. Tokyopop definitely had the better logo for Maid-sama.

    I got a book storage tip from one of my older coworkers, and it's worked out pretty well for me so far. If you're allowed to drill holes in your wall, above doors/closets/windows is a great place to install a shelf. Just need a couple brackets, a board, make sure you're drilling into wood, and you're all set! I keep all my Fumi Yoshinaga manga above my bedroom door lol. Manga isn't typically super heavy, so the weight limit often isn't a factor, but just something to keep in mind. Also have a shelf above my closet, and planning to add one above my window. Not an aesthetic for everyone, but practical if you have a lot of books and works for me lol.

    Read Magic Knight Rayearth not all that long ago and you just keep looking over the pages they are so dynamic and rich and busy in the best way possible, the idea of seeing that in print! But my room is full of books everywhere as is. So let me share a good experience that can happen to a bookworm - the book exchange event! Every three months or so a group of book nerds organise this event in my town of about half a million people, you bring the books you decided to give and you are given a number of points for them. Then you look around and take what you like, and "buy" the books with the points you got. A great way to declutter your shelves and keep the volumes in motion, no money involved. Maybe the organisers get some financial incentive from the town as this fills up their cultural event calendar a bit but i dont know that for a fact. Anyway this has been happening since 2018 so its not just a one time thing. And you even have framed manga prints on your walls! Random people who show up at your place will never know what youre all about!

    • @ColleensMangaRecs
      @ColleensMangaRecs 18 годин тому

      Oh my gosh that event sounds like it would be so fun! Would be cool to have something like that specifically for manga collectors. I'll have to look around my area for something like that.

    Chobits is ? 8, I gave mine away years ago, but the reprints are really pretty~......😅 Tsubasa I had up to ? 12 and got bored, so I only kept 1-3. XxxHolic I had up to 8?9?, but it was cheaper to purchase the all omnibus volumes than the rest of the singles (that took 3 years because volume 4 was scarce), but I kept vol 1 because it was my first manga ever 💕

    Only thing I hate about manga, is that they take up SO MUCH SPACE. I would love to collect them, but they print them in such small volumes and in larger quantities and they just take up so much space. I'm collecting traditional printed books but I'm also slowly but surely starting to run out of space.

    • @ColleensMangaRecs
      @ColleensMangaRecs 18 годин тому

      I do kinda wish publishers made manga volumes as small as they do in Japan. It would be so much more spacious.

    • @asobimo5532
      @asobimo5532 18 годин тому

      @@ColleensMangaRecs either that, or to compile them into bigger volumes so you spend less money on buying more manga. I think the reason why manga is so cheap in Japan is probably because they print them so small. But either way, but options are good but for different reasons

    Shelf raisers/risers are actually something you can make at home. I recently made my own by collecting empty drink cans (same size), rinsing them thoroughly and letting them fully dry, then sticking them together by their sides with double sided tape. This works best if you put them on a flat surface so they're level with each other. Also once you get a chain going, put the tape on the new can so you can leave the "stack" on the work surface and just line up and then stick on the new can. Once you've got enough cans lined up to about fit the length of your shelf, cut a piece of cardboard to put on top so the volumes don't sag into the crevices between the cans. The cans most likely won't fit your shelf exacrly, so for whatever gap there is, leave some excess cardboard on your strip (it works best if the cardboard is all in one piece for sturdiness reasons) and then fold it into a rectangle that slots between the can and the shelf wall. Corrugated cardboard works best for this since the segments make it easier to fold neatly, and you can count them and write down how many between each fold if you want to make another in the future. The shape of the cans makes this a surprisingly sturdy construction, and I've not yet had any cans crumple under the weight. But I maybe wouldn't put box sets on there. Happy crafting, I hope this made sense 😅

      My cheap riser solution was using scrap 3x3 wood chunks. Worked so well that when I got my Billy’s, I continued the tradition. You can get scrap pieces on the cheap from your local hardware store and sometimes they’ll cut them to size if you don’t have a saw at home.

    When men talk about their favorite series I never see hoardes of women making fun of them but when it's women talking about what they like hundreds of men always feel the need to have their ignorant opinions heard. Why is that? Their egos can't handle the fact that people have different tastes from them? Fragile masculinity is at an all time high
